Society of Black Solar Professionals

OUR STORY

The Society of Black Solar Professionals was established in the summer of 2020 while founder, Savannah Whitfield (She/Her) was working on Diversity and Inclusion practices at Black Bear Energy. Through this work, she faced challenges with diverse recruitment likely fueled by existing racial inequality in the solar industry. The reality is, most hiring is done through existing professional networks and currently, Black people are not very present in these networks. The inspiration for SBSP began with the desire to more easily match solar companies with Black professionals looking for new opportunities but it has evolved into much more. In the coming year, we plan to develop additional programs including SBSP University, Professional Development Workshops, and Community Building Events.
